In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth....

Often I feel as though I have abandoned those whom I love and care for the most by chosing to live so far away. It is difficult, to say the least, to keep in touch with friends and family despite the electronic gadgets we have all become so fond of. Through this blog I hope to share the goings on of the life we live here in North Carolina, and maintain relationships, as well as rekindle relationships that may have faded.

Invitation

If you are a dreamer, come in,

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...

If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire

For we have some flax- golden tales to spin.

Come in!

Come in!

Am I a redneck?? Jeff Foxworthy has made millions helping people answer that question. According to him, and probably my neighbors, I fit the bill at least some of the time. Because of my propensity to indulge in things considered "REDNECK", I feel I can poke a little fun without fear of ridicule from my peers. Do rednecks really talk like that?? The definition I found of redneck on the web is: a poor white person living in the Southern United States, or a stereotype given to a group of people that may be found living anywhere in the United States or Canada. I don't think I'm poor, but I do live in the South. Who knows!? I was watching C-span the other day and found out I don't earn enough in a year to be considered Middle-Class. Well of course not, especially after they take 1/3 of my check for taxes! What a blow to my ego!! I always thought redneck was a term given to field workers. You know, their neck would get sunburned from tending to crops all day! You see, I did pay attention in school, I was just given faulty information. That's it on Rednecks.... for now.

Last year I tried Autocross for the first time. What a fun, inexpensive way to blow off some steam! For those who do not know what Autocross is, it is a cone course set up in a parking lot or other paved surface, through which participants are timed. Almost any vehicle can compete in a huge variety of classes, from stock to heavily modified. At first I tried a front wheel drive Honda Prelude. I did ok, but the car was a pile, and needed a lot of work. I sold that car and used my friend's Mazda RX7. It was soooo much more fun in a rear drive car! I ran that car at 2 events and placed average for a first season. Then my boss bought this Toyota MR2 racecar. See picture below. It's been completely gutted and fitted with a roll cage. The engine is stock internally, with a few bolt on modifications. My first event in this car, I was 10th fastest of about 60 participants. Very fast, very fun. This year I may not compete, as we have the baby on the way in May. But I do intend to continue in the future!! Stay tuned!
